Pizzeria du Chateau - Josselin
Saturday Night
I had promised the Girlie that I would cook Veal Milanaise for Saturday night but, I was tired and the cost of Veal in the local supermarket caused me to think twice.
So, instead, I offered to take her out for a meal at the Pizzeria du Chateau (details... Pizzeria du Chateau - 6, rue des Trente - 02 97 75 66 40).
She seemed quite keen as it is just 100 yards from us and they are advertising for staff at the moment.
On the other hand, maybe she was just relieved that she didn't have to suffer my Veal Milanaise?

Starters

In order to reduce the cost of the meal, we decided not to order any alcoholic drinks at all (we had a bottle of wine in the fridge at home, anyway.) We immediately broke this promise by ordering a Ricard each whilst we perused the menu.
We both chose from the 16 Euro set menu.
We both chose the Salade de Terroir for our starters. This would have been adequate for a main course - a large plate filled with salad, lardons, eggs, tomatoes and potato risoles.
The Girlie couldn't finish hers so I helped out - BIG MISTAKE!
Main Course
For the main course, I had the pizza of the day - it was fine; way too big for me and perhaps not very adventurous but I really can't complain.
The Girlie had a Pave of Beef. A giant doorstep of a steak, this was perfectly cooked and tasted gorgeous - I help the Girlie finish hers - Big Mistake.
I am not desperately keen on Pizza and would certainly choose the Pave of Beef the next time round - If chosen off the A la Carte menu, this is fantastically enourmous (warning, don't even think about starters if you choose this, unless you are a ten ton sumo wrestler who has been on a starvation diet for the last three months!)
The was also a good selection of pasta dishes on the menu but I can do these at home (unless, of course, I am feeling to lazy to do so - did anyone mention Veal Milanaise?)
Desert
For the desert the Girlie had an excellent Tarte Tartin - I stuck to Ice Cream - both were excellent, as was the service during the evening.
The restaurant is normally very busy and booking is advised - on Saturday, most of the business seemed to be in Take Away pizzas - I'l have to try that one of these days.
The Pizzeria du Chateau, Josselin also caters for children and vegetarians and has a comfortable ambiance with the exposed stone walls inside the ancient building.
Afters
Next door to the Pizzeria is an excellent Brocante (Antique Shop) which is owned and run by the same family who run the restaurant.
The restaurant does have some outside seating and can cater for parties and events.

All in all, I can highly recommend the Pizzeria du Chateau (after all - it is a favourite of many of my French friends from work) and will be going back there soon.
The Pizzeria is located just behind the chateau - the best place to park would be in the car park next door to the Bar de la Rotonde.
Another enjoyable evening - great company, good food - what more could you want?
All the best....
Keith
