Le Petit Bar

The Petit Bar from BretonDiary.com - the online journal of an Englishman living in FranceLooking back through some of my recent entries I realise that it might seem that, to a casual observer, this is the online diary of a raving alky!

Every other article seems to be about a bar or a restaurant!

There is, however, a good reason for this.

Whilst I am off work on sick leave, I have the time to socialise (and believe getting out of the house does me some good), and anyway, I'm not driving at the moment (for which most pedestrians must be very happy as most of my recent driving did involve pavements), and I firmly do believe that, if you want to integrate, you do need to go the your local bar at least once a week. Josselin has lots of local bars so I am spoilt for choice. Anyway, that is my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

One of our nearest bars (in the Rue des Trentes), is Le Petit Bar. The Girlie and I both enjoy it there - as does Joshy as they have a friendly cat!

The patron, Phillipe, is very welcoming and has become a good friend over the few months that the Girlie and I have been living in Josselin.

Le Petit Bar

There is a sign on the wall to remind us exactly why we are here. And quite right too!

If you ask nicely, they will do a Croque Monsieur (a sort of French Welsh Rarebit) for you. In fact, even if you are rude, they probably will do one for you but... it never hurts to be polite, does it?

Although small, the bar boasts an internet PC which can be rented by the half hour - this might be useful for any of you who need to get online and don't have Wifi connections in your Gites (or if you have wisely left your portable at home.)

They also have a wide screen TV on the wall so that you can keep up with footie results!

For a small bar, there is a great ambiance - but, isn't that often the way?

It is situated next door to the English Bookshop in Josselin and is the ideal place to go and gloat over what you have bought there.

The Girlie and I like the place because it's not far from home.

The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming and we have made friends with the complete strangers that we have met there.

It also doesn't hurt that it's on the way home from town and so we pass it many times a day - sometimes we feel the need to pop in.

I've just asked the Girlie why we like Le Petit Bar so much - she said "Out of all the bars, it has the best feel - you feel like part of the family." - so be it. I'll defer to the Girlie's judgement (and anyone who wants to know what she's up to, they can take a look at her blog..... Lust in Brittany).

Actually, I think that, for once, the Girlie might just be right - I might just have to go back tomorrow for another look! Just to make sure - you know!

All the best

Keith
