Valentine's Night

Valentine's Night

Valentines Night at The Hotel Restaurant du Chateau, Josselin, Brittany, France As it was Valentine's Night, I took the Girlie out for a meal last Saturday.

We went to the Hotel Restuarant du Chateau (more details from... http://www.hotel-chateau.com).

It was a lovely romantic night; we ate well and the Girlie even managed to get me onto the dance floor - wonders will never cease!

Starters

For starters we had Foie Gras de Canard Maison with Pommes a la Fine de Bretagne, Confit d'Onignons and sa Tuile de Cappa

It was beautifully presented and tasted gorgeous.

The menu was a set, special menu for Valentine's night and cost 35 euros per head. Normally one can eat at the Restaurant Hotel du Chateau for between 18 and 35 euros a head. The wine list is rather small but the wines themselves are not too expensive - we drank a carafe of Rose which was very drinkable and didn't cost an arm and a leg.

Main Course

The Main Course was L'Emince de Magret de Canard aux Baies Roses et Griottes et ses Legumes Amoureux.

I tried to distract the Girlie so that I could ransack her plate but she was so engrossed in enjoying her food I had no luck.

During the main course, a two man band started up. The music was an added attraction to the evening.

Desert

Desert was Dessert douce folie Le Coulant au Caramel, Mousse Exotique et son Tartare de Fruits Frais. It was so good that I can still taste it now.

The service during the evening was excellent and unfortunately, at no point during the evening did I have any excuse to perform a Gordon Ramsay impersonation.

Afters

After desert was finished, the Girlie put on a begging face and asked me to dance.

Now, I don't normally dance because of a horrible motorcycle accident that I suffered in my youth.

In the accident both of my legs were severed at the ankle. During the extensive surgery that followed, both my amputated feet were safely sown back on but there was a mix up at the hospital and one of my feet got mixed up with a foot from someone else who, coincidently, had suffered a very similar accident.

As a result, I got two left feet and can't dance to save my life but, don't worry too much...... the other guy got two right feet and, as a result, dances like Fred Astaire!

Anyway, I allowed the Girlie to drag me out onto the dance floor (I don't know who was more suprised, her or me) and managed one dance with her before having to rush off to the bar - the Girlie likes dancing and is good at it - I don't and I'm not!

I did promise the Girlie that I wouldn't mention her walking right past our house on the way home and only realising that she'd gone too far when she was 100 yards further up the hill - so I won't mention it!

All in all, an excellent and romantic evening.

All the best....

Keith
