Redon Market
I popped into Redon Market on Monday to have a word with the chickie man.
He’s the man who sells chickens and ducks and similar things; he’s not called chickie and you shouldn’t really call him that (at least, not to his face!)
Then again….
I didn’t buy any chickies because the chicken compound (destined to be the poshest Chicken Compound in Europe) wasn’t quite finished.
I did take some photos though…..

I was looking for a new pair of Long-Johns but couldn’t find any on special offer.
So, my winter pair will have to last a few more weeks (no market next week because, surprise surprise – it’s another Bank Holiday!)

The Welsh word for market is marchnad, with the ‘ch’ in the middle having the sound of clearing one’s throat….but it’s not a cough sound….more like producing phlem to spit. What were my ancestors thinking of whilst producing the language of heaven, as some people remark on it BUT probably referring to when it is sung? ” Mae hen wlad fy nhadau……”
Graham – The Breton word for market is marc’had – with a similar throat clearing bit but no “n” pronounced.
I suppose that Breton could also be considered the language of heaven – primarily because Brittany (when it’s not raining) could reasonably be called Heaven on Earth?
