A visit to Half Acre Farm!
On Saturday, for the first time in many months, the Girlie, Joshy and I went round to visit out friends Paul and Roz at their Half Acre Farm, the other side of the valley from the Girlie’s house.
We brought a bottle of wine and a bag of Walnuts (about half this years crop, so far – all of 1kg!)
For Josh, the main attraction seemed to be feeding the animals!
Whilst Joshy was busy feeding the animals, us adults were busy feeding our faces and sampling some lovely chilled Rose wine.
We chatted in a typically French manner, with a beautiful view, great weather, great company, grape juice tongue lubrication and… all the time in the world!
I don’t think that it would have been quite quite the same in Bognor or Basingstoke!
Half Acre Farm is home to many animals – these are the Goats (they do have names but I didn’t get on first name terms with them.
But then, would you if were busy relaxing and chatting in the sunshine, with a glass or two of chilled wine to help you along?.

Joshy seemed to be quite happy feeding, and getting to know, the animals whilst us Grown Ups chatted and drank.
In fact, thinking about it, I don’t think we heard a peep out of him – perhaps he was ill?
Certainly, the chickies, ducks, geese, sheep and goats seemed to enjoy his attentions.
Not to mention the million and one dogs that Paul and Rosalyn keep on their farm!
It was a beautiful afternoon and evening.
The temperature had hit 23 degrees, earlier on and there was no wind to chill the evening.
This is the view to the South-East.
Had I had slightly less wine, I might have thought about taking a photo of the view due south – that would have shown the Girlie’s house, across the valley – I blame it all on the quality (rather than quantity) of the wine!
At some point, the wine did run out and our host had to visit the kitchen to fetch some more.
I get the feeling that the chickies, ducks and geese thought that they might be in line for a glass or two, as well!
The geese certainly seemed a bit upset when they realised that the Cotes de Rhone wasn’t coming their way.
On the other hand, it might have been me that upset them – by discussing cooking methods and the choice of herbs that I would use!
Josh seemed to be in his element – here he is, standing on a hay-bale, feeding one of the goats.
Coming towards the end of the evening, Paul and Rosalyn offered us dinner – Cornish Pasties.
Normally, I would have snapped up their offer but, as I had spent the afternoon slaving over a hot stove, I really wanted the Girlie and Josh to suffer my efforts rather than enjoy the, no doubt superb, cooking of Rosalyn!
Both the Girlie and Joshy did complain of tummy ache the next morning but perhaps they weren’t used to the height of my Haute Cuisine!
