Hi, Keith….I sing in a shanty ‘sea-song’ group based in Swansea, South Wales and recently returned from a festival held in Waterford, Eire. There we were once again privileged to meet and sing alongside the Breton group ‘Les Souilles au fond de calle’ (which I was told translates as ‘sewer rats’….leg pull?).They also have followers who regularly do the Breton hand-holding chain dance which is totally charming to watch and fairly tricky to take part in.
Good morning Keith…
WOW!! That’s amazing! I knew it was a different language but had no idea that it wasn’t a “French” sounding language… What is it’s base? Do you speak it?? Take care, Leesa
Graham – I believe the dancing becomes easier (and indeed, almost natural) when you’ve imbibed enough of the local Cidre!
Leesa – I don’t speak the language but it comes from the old Cornish/Welsh/Celtic that was brought over by the early inhabitants.
