The promised storms didn’t do as much damage in this part of South West Brittany as was predicted.

There was a lot of rain though, and there are plenty of flooded areas all around.

These photos were taken in La Gacilly.

That lake was a field last week!

I think we sometimes forget that whilst it only rains twice a year here in Brittany!

The first time it rains from November through to the end of January and then it rains again from February through till May!

We even have a saying here… En Bretagne, il ne pleut que sur les cons !

Which, roughly translated means… In Brittany, it only rains on the muppetts!

It’s been raining a lot and I’ve been getting wet; which makes me…….?

Can you sense the power in that swollen river?

Or do you have to see it every day in order to understand?

If someone fell in there (or was chucked in), they’d stand no chance!

Now, where’s that VSP driver who cut me up?

Well, the snow visited south west Brittany and for a few days we all thought… “Oh, how nice.”

Then we all got sick of chopping wood and continually feeding the fire.

We all thought about trading in our perfectly decent cars….

For four wheel drives that would cost an arm and a leg.

We panicked about not being able to get to the shops.

And starving to death…..

Unless we succumbed to hypothermia first!

We cursed the estate agents who swore to us…..

That south west Brittany has a micro-climate…..

And never gets any snow!

And then, before we knew it.

It was over.

Just a tale for us to tell our grandchildren.

“You youngsters don’t understand. In the olden days we didn’t have any of these mod cons.”

“You should have been there in the freeze of January 2010.”

“Snow up to the chimney and we had to eat the dog and the budgie, just to survive!”

“And that lot down the road ate their Granny.

But then, they always were a bit strange.”

“Oh, you kids of today, with your centrally heated four wheel drives. You just don’t know that you’re born!”

A touch too much Monty Python, perhaps?
