Cowabunga!

So, there I was, happily driving home from my morning coffee at the bar and what did I see?

But a cow in the road!

Now, quite often the farmer leads his cows from one field to another but today…

There was no farmer around!

The cows were sneaking out under the electric fence and had decided to go for a walk.

I parked the car and went off to find someone to tell.

Luckily the farmer turned up and took over.

He wasn’t very happy though; especially when the cows got into someone else’s field and started playing football with the bales of hay!

They didn’t play badly though;  perhaps Capello should give them a try?

Summer has arrived!

A little while ago, I talked about the Seesaw at Cournon.

Or, more specifically, I talked about the two dummies that are dressed according to the season.

The other day I was taking the ThirteenYearOld to school and thinking that it was way too hot for the poor chaps to be wearing their winter raincoats!

I took The Girlie out for lunch a few hours later and the dummies had changed into their summer clothes!

We had to stop and take a few photos!

I much prefer the summer attire although I do have to admit to having an overwhelming urge to sneak out one night with a Spurs scarf and bobble hat!

But, I’d be bound to get caught…….

…. after all, how many Spurs fans are there in France, let alone Brittany?

We’re a dying breed, I’m afraid.

It’s the stress that killing us off…..

… the stress of supporting the Worst Football team in the world!

SeeSaw

These two guys are two be seen, all year round, on a Seesaw by the primary school in Cournon.

They’ve been dressed like this all winter long.

Now that Spring is here they’ll get changed into more suitable wear.

It’s little things like this that brighten my every day.

And yes, OK……..

….. I’ll admit it.

I’d been living here for quite a few weeks before I realised that they aren’t real!

Vide Grenier

The Girlie, the ThirteenYearOld and I went to a vide-grenier recently.

We weren’t looking for anything in particular but, with the improvement in the weather, it seemed like a sensible thing to do.

In any case, there wasn’t anything there that we wanted to buy.

At least, nothing we could afford.

I did take a bit of a fancy to this box of body parts.

The trouble is, I don’t know what I wanted them for.

I suppose it’s always handy to have a box of limbs tucked away somewhere.

The vide-grenier season appears to be starting and we are busy clearing space for  all the tasteless tat that we’ll undoubtedly buy.

I’m not really sure why we do it but it does get us out of the house for a few hours on a Sunday morning.

This lovely car wasn’t for sale and so I didn’t drive it home!

I would have been even more excited about that than the box of body parts!

Still, there’s always next week and another Vide Grenier.

A vide grenier

The Girlie and I went to a Vide Greniers (a sort of very relaxed type of all day Car Boot Sale), the other day.

We were very lucky with the weather and, also, lucky with customers.

The Vide Greniers was held at La Gacilly and, although we had arranged to have a table inside, we decided to just lay out our stuff on the ground, outside.

A death in the village.

After a hard day’s work, I dragged myself to the bar (as is my custom) for a well deserved Panache (or two).

Michelle seemed distracted.

‘Perhaps she’s also had a hard day’, I thought.

Then, the church bells started ringing.

“A death in the village.” Michelle explained. “Marie went to the cemetary yesterday, to visit her husband’s grave. That was strange as she normally only does that on a Sunday, after Mass. This morning a neighbour found that she had died in her sleep.”

Vide Grenier – Guegon

I visited the local Vide-Grenier at Guegon, today.

I came away with three large bags of goodies but was especially happy that I managed to find a riding hat for 5 euros (and it fits).

Lots of other things including many old cork-stoppered, glass jars – that’s where this years dried mushrooms (and Ceps in Olive Oil) will go.

I also picked up a couple of fishing reels, not very high quality but, brand new and only 5 euros each. I’m sure that the fishes won’t notice that they didn’t cost a lot!

A Vide Grenier

For the second week in a row, I have spent Sunday going to a Vide-Grenier.

I was on the hunt for some weird and wonderful kitchen equipment (you really don’t want to ask!) and some riding kit (I plan to take up horse riding).

I didn’t find much of the stuff that I wanted but did manage to pick up these two escargot services for just 5 euros.

Random wafflings

Often, after a hard day’s work, I pop into my local bar for a beer and a chat. It’s a very quiet bar and certainly not for tourists. Michelle, the landlady, seems to have taken me under her wing (perhaps she does that with everyone).
