Secret Alleyways…
All around La Gacilly there are secret little alleyways….
This is one I discovered today.
It led up to a hidden courtyard….
And a house with a blue door….
That I never knew was there.

Hiya kids. Here’s an important message from your Uncle Bill. Don’t buy drugs…. Become a pop star, and they give you them for free.
I spotted these wild poppies at La Gacilly.
Sometimes wild flowers can look so much better that the cultured sort.
These seem just right for where they are….
This is the tea rooms at La Gacilly.
We went there just after they opened, about a year ago.
The staff seemed a bit hurried but it showed a lot of potential.
Will have to go back again some time!
All around La Gacilly are herbs growing here there and everywhere….
They all have slate markers so that you can tell what they are.
I’m sure that you’re not allowed to help yourself….
But I’m often sorely tempted!
There is a cobbled street that runs up the hill from the town center towards the school where the ThirteenYearOld goes.
Sometimes I like to have a wander up there to take a look through the windows of the art galleries that congregate there.

This could really confuse you… If you didn’t know it wasn’t real! I’ll admit to walking past about 1000 times… Before I realised! |

Everywhere you look, there are secret little passages in La Gacilly.
Let’s go explore, shall we?
The quality really wasn’t very good because, due to my birthday celebrations the night before, I wasn’t very well!

An early morning walk by the river….
Boats to look at and….
Photos to study.
What could be better?

It was the Festival of Flowers at La Gacilly on Sunday and, even though we had been up half the night celebrating my birthday (photos and gossip to follow when I feel just a little better!), we dragged ourselves to La Gacilly, parked the car a million miles from the festivities, struggled in and….
Had a great time!
It was lucky that Christophe (patron of the La Gacillienne) was on hand to supply us with much needed hairs of the dog and a big bowl of chips to soak it all up.
I’m really not sure I would have survived without that!
I do have the weirdest feeling that he put on his green jacket just in case I was violently sick all over him – I guess it wouldn’t show, so much?

There are plenty of secret passages in La Gacilly.
Some lead here and…
Some lead there.
They all have their little secrets.
They all have stories to tell.
There’s a strange little shop half way up this one.
And an apartment to rent.
You could easily walk past it and not know it was there.
I’ve probably done that hundreds of times myself.
Once discovered though…
Never forgotten.

It seems that La Gacilly is underwater.
There are fishes everywhere!

There are spider crabs in La Gacilly.
They are everywhere…
Aren’t they nice!

On Sunday the ThirteenYearOld, the Girlie and I went to La Gacilly to join the crowds looking at the Photo Festival.
Even late in the afternoon, the town was packed with visitors.

I’m really getting quite fond of La Gacilly.
It is a picturesque ville fleurie with a stunning weir and an abundance of flowers in summer.
There is a flower festival every June and a grand photo festival in the streets throughout the summer!
At the port, one can hire a small day boat and cruise along the river.
Quaint cobbled streets house about 25 local artisans and artists from glass blowing to painting on leaves!
The locals are kind and warm and seem to have welcomed me.
I am starting to make friends.
I never thought that I would leave Josselin (which is equally magical in its own way) but…
This is near where I now live and where I have chosen to hang my hat.
All the best
They’ve been putting up the photos in La Gacilly.
I’ve been watching them do it.
It does seem like an awful lot of trouble but….
… It’ll bring so much pleasure to so many!
The photos for the photographic exhibition are everywhere in La Gacilly.
By the main road running through La Gacilly there is a potager (a small vegetable garden;) this is also decorated with photos.
In fact, it’s becoming hard to find part of La Gacilly that hasn’t been decorated!
I like that!
