Bastille Day – Josselin – 2008

And I’ve dug out my photos of the Bastille Day celebrations two years ago (they only do them every two years)…

For some reason, these didn’t make the move from the old BretonDiary to the new one? I’ll have to have a hunt around and see if there’s anything else that got left behind!

Bastille Day (part 3)

The tattoo parlour – with a guy outside who got drunk and now can’t remember why he chose ‘Allez les Bleus’…

I don’t know if this chap had dressed up or not? He looked a bit tough and I didn’t like to ask him!

Bastille Day (part 2)

I’ll give them their due…

They knew how to treat kiddies in the old days!

Lock them in cages and feed them rat droppings!

Never did me any harm!

The kids of today just don’t know they’re born!

Bastille Day (part 1)

As Wednesday was Bastille Day, The Girlie and I trotted over to Josselin to join in the celebrations there.

Actually, that’s a lie! We didn’t trot over there, we got in the car instead! Josselin is about 50km away and my trotting days are well and truly over!

You’re having a laugh!

Spotted in Josselin…..

Next door to La Taverne (where they serve the largest glasses of wine in Josselin – these things are important, you know!)

I wonder why this little road was named this way?

Perhaps the medieval town planners had had one too many large glasses of wine at La Taverne and were just having a laugh?

How big is that belly?

Not content with making piggy-wiggies of ourselves at the Valentine’s night bash at Josselin, the Girlie and I decided to go out for lunch the following day.

Unfortunately, the local restaurants were only doing special Valentine’s Day meals!

It was a hard decision to take…

And we DID try to be strong.

But, in the end….

Wanton gluttony overtook us (it’s strange how often that happens in my life.)

And we gave in and made piggies of ourselves all over again!

Doors!

Across the river from the main part of Josselin, is a small community known as Sainte Croix.

I’ve often spent a Sunday morning wandering round there, looking at the old buildings and then stopping for a quick coffee at Le Bar Triskel.

I like watching all the Sunday morning cyclists stopping off at Le Bar Triskel for a quick glass of Ricard and a few puffs on a Gitane before cycling off to the next bar for…

Well, more of the same!

I didn’t drop a touch all night!

I did promise the Girlie that I would delete this photo.

And I really meant it at the time.

But somehow….

In trying to delete the photo….

I managed to post it here, instead!

Not sure how that happened – I blame it on a slight excess of alcohol at our Valentine’s Night Celebration!

It’s as good an excuse as any!

Chanson d’Amour

Now, there may be some readers of Breton Diary who are too young to remember the Manhattan Transfer; there may be but… I think they are probably lying about their age!

Manhattan Transfer were (and still are), an American vocal band who got to number one in the UK charts in 1977 with the lovely Chanson d’Amour.

Which brings me rather nicely to Valentine’s Day celebrations chez Breton Diary.

Now, you may remember that last year I dragged to Girlie to the Hotel Restuarant du Chateau in Josselin (which was handy because we were living in Josselin then.)

Three minutes slow

Over the last month or so, I’ve had plenty of opportunities to return to Josselin for the day.

I’ve got clients there and have also had to visit Helga’s House of Pain (as the abattoir where I used to work is commonly known!), to sort out my redundancy stuff.

The Green Beastie (my car), and I have been clocking up the miles (or, should that be… kilometers) and, so far, we not managed to kill anyone. Give it time?

One of the things that I’ve noticed about Josselin is that the Church Clock is always three minutes slow.

Tracy Walters

Tracy Walters – Mobile Hairdresser – 25 years experience

Recently, at the St. Patrick Day celebrations at La Taverne in Josselin, I noticed a woman (one of many, I have to say), who was dancing round a handbag to YMCA.

Then, at the 60s and 70s Soiree Disco (also at La Taverne, Josselin), I noticed the same woman dancing (arms flying about – once again, one of many), to Abba.

I rushed outside to recover and have a ciggie – she came outside as well. We started chatting and it turned out that she is a hairdresser and lives in Mohon, not far from where I used to live.

I promised her that when we had both sobered up, I’d ask her a few questions for the benefit of the readers of BretonDiary.

Well, that was 2 weeks ago and I think we’ve both just about sobered up enough (it was a very good night, that disco at La Taverne!)

Valentine’s night

As it was Valentine’s Night, I took the Girlie out for a meal last Saturday.

We went to the Hotel Restuarant du Chateau (more details from… http://www.hotel-chateau.com).

It was a lovely romantic night; we ate well and the Girlie even managed to get me onto the dance floor.

Wonders will never cease!

Welcome to Gasgoine

A recent arrival at 59 Rue St. Nicolas is Gasgoine!

He turned up one morning and has been with us for nearly a week!

I kind of like Gasgoine as he has a nice big smile on his face, as though he’s always happy (or perhaps he’s just suffering from wind!) A bit like me, really

Not sure about the yellow trousers, though!

Gone fishing

In every young boy’s life, there are a few moments that transcend reality and will remain in his mind forever.

Moments like scoring the first six/try/goal for the school; the first slow dance (with a girl); the first kiss (once again, with a girl… I would hope?) and, maybe most important of all – The First Fishing Trip!

Thus, well aware of my responsibilities, I took Joshy fishing for the first time in his life, the other day!

A moving story

The Girlie moved into her new house in Josselin 2 weeks ago.

Feeling in a particularly sociable mood, I moved in a couple of days later!

So far we seem to be coping well – she hasn’t discovered all my bad habits and, the ones she has discovered don’t seem to worry her too much!

It’s nice living in the centre of town – so easy to pop out and buy a baguette of have a quick coffee!

I haven’t taken any photos yet but… watch out for some piccies of 59 Rue St. Nicholas, Josselin!

Tent Adventures

The Girlie’s son, Josh, and his mate Nick came over for a night in the tent and a barbeque – these are the photos.

A quiet drink.

The Girlie and I went to the doctor’s this morning.

We had to discuss the results of my recent brain scan (all clear) and how my new medication was working for me.

I was rather worried that (1). I would be sent back to work (and I know that I’m not really ready for that), and (2). One of the results of my last blood test indicated a problem with my liver!

I was very worried that I was going to need a Liver Transplant (which would involve lots of internal medical stuff), and… undoubtedly, loads of injections!

Josselin – Bastille Day 2008

This year, Josselin held a medieval festival on Bastille Day – here are some photos from it.
