The Girlie’s car has had a problem with its front seats for about a year and I have finally gotten round to trying to fix them.

So I just want to know why is it…

That if us men have to do all the DIY stuff…

And God is so clever…

Why didn’t he give men three arms so that we hold the bodged up bit in place whilst holding the seat foam out of the way whilst still being able to screw it up?

In my book, the fact that men only have two arms is proof positive of the non-existence of God!

And, as for that Darwin chap…

If men are constantly evolving….

Why haven’t we developed fingers 15 inches long…..

And shaped like needle nose pliers…

And magnetic, as well…

I always thought that Darwin was suspect…

Us being descended from apes and all that….

Let me tell you, the guy who designed the seats on a VW Polo…

Makes your average Ape look like Bluddy Einstein!

Sorry, rant over!

P.S. If you own a VW Polo and the seat catches fail. Don’t bother thinking about the merest possibility of even considering replacing them. The things aren’t designed to be fixed. You’re better off throwing the car away and walking to work!

Probably be less stressful!

We’ve been busy sorting out all the stuff that we want to get rid of…

I’ve got loads of old farm implements to dispose of…

I did find a mask as well…

Not sure if I want to get rid of that!

My father is visiting for a couple of weeks and I had to pick him up from the airport.

It was a simple task; one that even I couldn’t mess up!

However, during the simple journey from Redon to St. Malo I managed to get lost twice (this really isn’t possible.) And then, having collected my father, I managed to take entirely the wrong road (even thought the right road was properly signposted), and spent half an hour driving west when I should have been driving south (and yes, I do have a compass on the dashboard – a big one!) The real highlight of the day, though, was managing to break the ticket machine in the car park at the ferry terminal at St. Malo (yes, I know that my father was flying in to Dinard; the ferry terminal at St. Malo was just a mistake, OK!), thus preventing any of the people queuing behind me from being able to get out of the aforementioned car park.

If you’re one of those people and are still stuck in that car park, I’m sorry, OK?

However, Father seems to have survived the experience (although whether he will survive two weeks at La Maison des Felurs is entirely another matter!) and is see above, reading with his eyes closed just before lunch.

Poor man, all that gallivanting around northern France must have tired him out!

The intermittent internet problems that I’ve been suffering from for the last few weeks came to a head a few days ago, when I lost my internet connection completely!

Orange are sending an engineer but not until the 20th!

I do have to say that they’ve been very good and they are going to try and route one earlier if one should be in the area.

So, whilst I may be able to prepare some BretonDiary posts offline and copy them onto a USB key for publication at the local Mediatheque, I won’t be able to do the research that is required for A Taste of Garlic.

I’d like to apologise to the 900 or so of you who manage to find your way here every day; I promise that BretonDiary will be back on line soon but possibly only after the 20th of July.

In the meantime, I shall be largely changing out of my winter LongJohns and into my summer ones!

This is a procedure that normally takes a few days, anyway!

The questions that I shall be asking myself will be as follows…
Have I written a novel (the reason for coming to France in the first place)? – Yes!
Am I happy now (and content and comfortable with myself, who I am) – Yes!
Do I have a future within my current work environment – Yes (I think).
If I find myself in five years time, still putting boxes onto pallets in an abattoir – will I still be happy? – Yes (I hope).

I think that some of the reasoning for my life change may be interesting to anyone who is thinking about doing the same thing themselves. But, that aside, the main reason that I shall be doing some life analysis is for myself – to ensure that I’m still on track.
