Of course, if we ever needed to try and find where our hot water pipes ran we wouldn’t have to buy an expensive gadget…

It’s a cat’s life…

cats Its a cats life... Life in Brittany, France

Next time round, I’m coming back as a cat!

Fed, watered and tickled! I think Sam (the fat cat – he reckons he’s built more for comfort than speed) does OK!

And he gets to lie on the Girlie’s knees whilst she’s reading! Heaven!

Yes, I’m coming back as a cat, next time round!

Cindy’s Turn!

cats Cindys Turn! Life in Brittany, FranceSo, Fat Sam showed he could catch (and massacre) a mousie and Cindy had to prove that she was still the boss!

We heard her making her “I’m playing with a mousie” noises…

And I went downstairs to investigate…

Warning, scenes of extreme death and destruction follow…..

Mousie Alert!

cats Mousie Alert! Life in Brittany, FranceThe Girlie came downstairs to find that Sammy had left her a little pressie!

To say that she was not impressed is an understatement!

Sammy has only recently taken up mousing!

He’s really too large.

I wouldn’t call him a big fat cat but he does admit that he’s built more for comfort than for speed!

Knows how to massacre a mousie though!

Warning – Scenes of death and destruction follow……

The Chickies – 04

cats The Chickies 04 Life in Brittany, FranceI suppose that the thing that has amazed me most about the chickies is the strength and variety of their individual characters.

It’s almost like they don’t know they’re not human….

…. or perhaps they think that the Girlie and I are just big (and possibly rather stupid) chickies?

Silence of the Mice!

cats Silence of the Mice! Life in Brittany, FranceI’ll start off by warning you that there are graphic images of death on this post.

Please don’t look unless you are happy seeing images of wholesale slaughter of cheese connoisseurs!

The cats (as I have mentioned before) have totally failed to reduce the local mousie population and so I had to step in and show them how it was done.

Now, although it may seem cruel, these mice are (or should that be… were?) vermin and would eat (and worse, poo all over) our food.

As we are also looking to let out the small cottage for summer lets, we needed to do something about the mousies as holidaymakers don’t really appreciate these nocturnal visitors!

At least the mousies I killed didn’t suffer and weren’t subjected to mousie tennis (it’s a game the cats play.  A bit like tennis but the game is over when the mousie exlodes!)

Please do not look at the rest of the post if you are the slightest bit squeamish!

You have been warned!

Mousie Cheese

cats Mousie Cheese Life in Brittany, FranceI can’t believe that I have just spent my own money on some cheese to bait the mousie traps I have bought.

Goodness know that I had two decent cats I wouldn’t need to bother!

But, unfortunately, I have two lazy cats!

I should say that Sammy (the fat cat who claims that he is built for comfort and not for speed) did manage to catch a mousie the other day but……

… he did seem rather surprised that he’d done so!

I have the horrible feeling that the mousie might just have disturbed Sammy’s beauty sleep and got accidentally  squashed by ten tonnes of feline fur as Sammy rolled over!

Mousies!

cats Mousies! Life in Brittany, FranceWe have mousies!

I know that we’ve got mousies because, the other night, when I came downstairs, there was one on the cooker….

…and it was smiling at me!

The Girlie had the same experience when she was showing a prospective buyer around the house.

Perhaps our mousies have been watching Fawlty Towers?  Basil the rat…?

cats Mousies! Life in Brittany, France

Let’s hope the prospective buyers don’t read this blog!

How, I hear you ask, can we have mousies when we have two perfectly fit and healthy cats around?

I’ve been asking myself the same question!

I guess that not much mousie catching is going to happen when your two perfectly fit and healthy cats are more interested in cuddling up in the sunshine!

I’ve tried to shame them into action….

cats Mousies! Life in Brittany, France….I’ve even tried bribing them!

But in the end……

If you want a job done properly…..

….. You have to do it yourself!

Here mousie mousie…

A nice bit of cheese for you!

It’s a cat’s life!

cats Its a cats life! Life in Brittany, FranceSometimes I wonder where I have gone wrong in life.

I think the real mistake was not being born a cat.

I look at my two sometimes and think… “Yup, you’ve got it cushy!”

Fed and kept warm – and cuddles on tap!

I suppose I ought to admit that the Girlie is fairly well trained.

She’s a good cook and is great at starting the fire.

And, as for the cuddles on tap…..

Return of the cat!

cats Return of the cat! Life in Brittany, FranceAfter 8 days away from home, Sammy has finally returned.

On Monday morning, whilst I do doing some work on the computer and the Girlie was in the kitchen, busily peeling garlic, we both heard a “Miaoww”

Sure enough, it was the Sammy beast!

Having said hello, the first thing he did was to rush to the food bowl and gorge himself – “nothing has changed there”, I thought to myself!

Cat and mouse!

cats Cat and mouse! Life in Brittany, FranceMissing her big fat brother, no doubt, has brought out the hunting instinct in Cindy.

She had been out searching for the missing boy (who freely admits that he’s built more for comfort, than for speed) and came back with a pressie for me.

I had to leave the room whilst she was eating it – it was still wriggling and the noise of the bones crunching – well, disgusting is too gentle a word!

Cat missing, missing cat.

cats Cat missing, missing cat. Life in Brittany, FranceI have 2 cats – they are brother and sister – they were both born on 1st May 1999 – They are called Sammy and Cindy!

They’ve both been with me for a long time and have been through lots of adventures with me (not least the 18 hour trip it took to get over here almost 6 years ago!)

Sometimes, they’ve both really pissed me off! They seem to think that I am their slave and only exist to work to earn money to buy them Prawnies!

No prawnies for tea!

In my Shower-room/Toilet, I have a large plant pot containing some indoor plants.

I bought these plants (think Banana Plant, Rubber Plant etc.) as waifs and strays from my local supermarket.

I tended to them, I looked after them, I always remember to water them.

They prospered and grew – I was happy. I just couldn’t understand why they recently started dying off.

It was only today, after work, that I realised the reason. I caught Sammy (the big, fat, stupid and naughty cat), digging a hole and doing something that he shouldn’t have been doing – in my plant pot!

So, Sammy – no prawnies tonight, not for you.

And, perhaps, not tomorrow, either.

And… the replacement plants are coming out of your Prawnie budget!

Oh, am I tired!

After an exciting and enjoyable three days in England, I got home very late last night.

Actually, very early this morning.

Mr Muppet here managed to take the wrong turn off the Rennes Periphique – I can’t understand how, it’s nearly impossible to do – and didn’t realise until he was close to the outskirts of Marseilles (perhaps I exaggerate, slightly).

Cats were very unhappy that I had deserted them again.

They were unhappy, that is, until I shared out their presents from ‘The Old Country’. I would be better off with children – they would be less trouble, I’m sure.

Enjoyed seeing everyone (and meeting Rick). Paul – I hope you’re feeling better soon!
