Hmmm….

autumn Hmmm.... Life in Brittany, France

Hmmm.. is pretty much what the FourteenYearOld had to say…

When he found he couldn’t get in the house after school the other day.

It appears that someone had bricked up the entrance…

“Don’t take it personally,” I said to him!

Bum!

autumn Bum! Life in Brittany, France

Normally I don’t mind taking the FourteenYearOld to school…

It’s a chance for me to have a coffee at the bar and catch up on some of the local gossip…

Which is generally more about what Jean-Pierre’s old sow has been up to…

Or what Jacques’ Bull hasn’t been up to…

Rather than what Paris Hilton is wearing these days!

It must be autumn…..

autumn It must be autumn..... Life in Brittany, France

It must be autumn…

It’s not just the cold wind and the rain that’s tipped me off that the seasons have changed…

Living in Brittany I’m used to that!

It’s more a case of the two people sat on the see-saw at Cournon have now got their winter clothes on!

Armistice Day….

autumn Armistice Day.... Life in Brittany, FranceA cold and wet start to Armistice Day.

This is a holiday in France, and rightly so.

I went to the bar for my morning coffee.

Patrick cycles in to La Gacilly from Glenac every morning.

“When it rains in Glenac in the morning,” he said once we’d done all that shaking hands bit, “it’ll rain all day.”

“It’s because the wind is from the west and there’s nothing between us and America.”

“My grandfather used to say that and he was never wrong.” Patrick explained.

“Good for the mushrooms, though.” I replied.

“Bah oui!  C’est vrai!” Patrick agreed.

It was still raining when I left to come home.

The Fauré requiem was on the radio.

Somehow it seemed an apt choice to broadcast today.

Well, it’s raining in Glenac so it’ll be raining all day; at least in this little part of rural Brittany.

All the best

A misty morning….

autumn A misty morning…. Life in Brittany, France

On the way home from dropping the FourteenYearOld off at school I stopped to take some photos…

I’ve got a new camera and it’s a bit more complicated than the last one.

I’m still trying to work out what it does…

Certainly, Landscape Mode seems to work properly.

The perils of Autumn…

autumn The perils of Autumn... Life in Brittany, France

I’m not the fastest of drivers at the best of time but in the Autumn I seem to slow right down.

But then, I’m not the only one….

A Vide Greniers

autumn A Vide Greniers Life in Brittany, France

We recently decided to clear out some of the stuff that was taking up so much room in the barn…

So we decided to hold a vide-greniers.

Strangely, it was the bigger stuff that sold?

But then, that was the stuff that was taking up so much room!

The rest is going in the car to the big Vide Greniers at Redon this Sunday…

I wonder if I’ll be able to sell the FourteenYearOld?

And, if so, how much I’ll get for him?

A weekend of tidying – alone!

I got a mail from Briony on Thursday to let me know that she was ill and wouldn’t be coming over for the wekend, after all. So, weekend to myself, I decided to tidy my study. A big mistake. How come the smallest room in the house is the messiest?

Cold and windy – and a stupid cat!

A day of disasters but, none of them really mattered. A series of mechanical failures at work meant that we didn’t finish until a quarter to six. I got home intending on doing my Autumn cleaning in the garden only to find that, after my nap (must be getting old!), a wet and windy storm had blown up – oh well, it can wait.

Working too hard!

We’ve just had an order for 10 tonnes of Plat Cotes.

These have to be wrapped and, as that takes time, the order is taking a long time to process.

Counting problems

abattoir Counting problems Life in Brittany, FranceAfter an easy day at work – both lines running at 300 cartons an hour and someone helping me all day – I came home to face the garden.

Sam offered to help me, Cindy decided to watch.

I raked up the walnuts that had fallen during the storm (my Landlady and neighbours had already been round to help themselves) and Sammy did the counting.

Sammy admitted to having a problem after an hour or so, “Daddy, what number comes after a million billion?” he asked me.

Still tired, still happy

Once again, I’ve been naughty and not updated the site for a while.

My excuse is that I’ve been very busy getting my other two sites up and running. Work, has also been very busy and I am doing a fair bit of overtime (up to the legal maximum of 43 hours.)

The extra hours aren’t so bad, it’s the extra work during those hours (yesterday both my productions lines hit 1,000 cartons an hour – each carton is 10kg – thus, 20 tonnes an hour – about my maximum!).
