I’m beginning to feel that, with the arrival of the chickies, some of the little sanity that used to reside here has gone out of the window!
Or, presumably, out of the front door that the chickie has just walked in through!
I mean, am I the only one to think that…..

Calagero Face a la Mer Face a la Mer seemed to be on the radio all the summer of 2005. I used to go into work with it in my head… and used to amuse my colleagues by singing it all day long! Over and over again!

I amused Denis so much that he borrowed a pair of ear muffs just to show his appreciation!
I did notice that on the days I was singing Face a la Mer, the bosses seemed to stay away!

K-Maro It’s not your time to go. I discovered K-Maro in 2004 when everyone was listening to A Femme like you. I don’t normally like rap music (in fact I believe that they’ve misspelt it and missed out a C), but I do like pretty much everything that K-Maro’s done. |

This is the tea rooms at La Gacilly.
We went there just after they opened, about a year ago.
The staff seemed a bit hurried but it showed a lot of potential.
Will have to go back again some time!
All around La Gacilly are herbs growing here there and everywhere….
They all have slate markers so that you can tell what they are.
I’m sure that you’re not allowed to help yourself….
But I’m often sorely tempted!
A couple of weeks ago I launched a new blog.
I didn’t make a big fuss about it at the time as it’s very much a geeky blog and aimed at people who are spotty, wear glasses and allow themselves to be seen in public wearing a three week old, dirty Rammstein tee-shirt!
The sort of people who don’t wash their hair for weeks on end, in other words!

This is one of my own.
I’ve long thought that there was a need for something in between the online bookshops that you can find on some of the expat sites and the vast, immense vastness of Amazon.
A site that was backed by all the power and range of Amazon but, one that was easier to use.
And better suited to its targeted readership…
An online bookselling site that was specific to people living in France or, those thinking of doing so.
A site where the visitors could contribute to the conversations; either via the commenting system or on the forum.
A site where the visitors could participate in the reviews and be rewarded , as a result.
The site is called www.BooksAboutFrance.com
Please feel free to pay it a visit and let me know if you feel it needs any radical surgery.
Before moving to France (and before my my move to London), I spent six years working in the book trade for Britain’s largest book wholesaler.
Based upon my experiences there, I am hoping to engage the publishers of relevant books to ensure that new titles are sent to France so that “guest reviewers” get a chance to provide pre-publication reviews for Books About France (and get a free copy of the book for their troubles!)
Perhaps there might be some competitions sponsored by those publishers?
There will also be the opportunity for people with blogs about Life in France to sponsor their favourite book about Life in France; all they need do is write a few words (10 – 20) about that book and I’ll put them on the relevant page of the site with a link to, and mini review of, their blog.
All I ask in return is for a sidebar link back to Books About France.
I’m also hoping to interview writers although I am aware that I may have to be a little bit more polite that I have been in the past (I’m thinking of those interviews on A Taste of Garlic, here.)
I’m in the process of adding another couple of thousand titles to the site; this does take time so, whilst everyone is enjoying the sunny weather, think of me hard at work, slaving away over a hot keyboard!

I bought this Chickie waterer a few weeks ago as the Chickies were using the bowls that I had been filling with water as footbaths! Now, I understand that Chickies have got to have clean feet but… They also need clean drinking water as well. The water in this waterer seems to stay cleaner for longer. |
Now, I know that, secretly, you are not quite as bored with these chickie videos and chickie pictures that you make yourself out to be!

At last, the building of the Great Fence of Brittany draws to a close.
The fence is erect and in place and just needs a final Screwing Up!
There is one more bit of custom made trellis to be painfully constructed by hand – I know I said never again (and I did mean it at the time), but….
A bit of trellis at the far end (where the car is parked) would really finish it off and…..
Make it “Oh, so posh!”
There is a cobbled street that runs up the hill from the town center towards the school where the ThirteenYearOld goes.
Sometimes I like to have a wander up there to take a look through the windows of the art galleries that congregate there.
So, the Girlie and I were sat outside having a little Apero (as you do) and, what do you know, we had some visitors.
“We’ve just come to check things out”, they said.
We still don’t know quite how they escape…
“And we’re not bluddy telling you”, they reply when we ask!
Chickies. Who’d have them, eh…
It seems we can’t even leave the front door open any more….

The early morning sun makes thing look different… Especially these black and white photos by the new Tourist Centre. They contrast well with the bright colours of the other photos in the festival. And the flowers that are everywhere. At the moment, La Gacilly is a wonderful place to be. |
